Surgery Overview

This sweet girl, Ruka—a 6-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix—came in because her owner was concerned about a bump behind her left ear. They had first noticed it about a year ago, but recently it became inflamed and scabbed over.

We performed a cytology test and confirmed that the mass was a mast cell tumor (MCT)—a type of aggressive skin cancer that can spread to other organs if left untreated.

The best way to treat MCT is surgical removal with wide margins to help prevent recurrence. We’re happy to report that Ruka’s surgery went smoothly, and she’s on the road to recovery.

We’re so proud of this brave girl and grateful her family brought her in. Early detection and treatment make all the difference!
