Femoral Head Ostectomy – Cat

Femoral Head Ostectomy – Cat

A second opinion that made all the difference. This sweet cat came to us after visiting another hospital, with ongoing discomfort and difficulty using her right hind leg. After a thorough evaluation, we diagnosed her with Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis (SCFE) affecting her right femur.

Common signs of SCFE in cats include:
• Limping or lameness (often sudden or progressive)

• Pain in the hip area

• Difficulty jumping or climbing

• Abnormal sitting posture or reluctance to bear weight.

To restore comfort and mobility, we performed a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) surgery. This procedure removes the damaged portion of the hip joint, allowing a false joint to form and significantly improving quality of life.

She’s now on the road to recovery, and we’re excited to see her regain strength and return to her normal, happy self.
