Bilateral MPL Correction – Maltese

Bilateral MPL Correction – Maltese

Limping, leg shaking, or occasionally skipping steps may seem minor at first, but they can sometimes be signs of an underlying orthopedic condition.

Recently, a Maltese patient visited us after his owner noticed increased limping and shaking in his hind legs. Although these signs had been present since he was a puppy, they appeared to improve over time and did not seem concerning at the time.

Radiographs revealed bilateral medial patellar luxation (MPL), a condition where the kneecaps slip out of their normal position in both knees.

After discussing treatment options, we proceeded with bilateral MPL correction surgery. The procedure was successful, and we’re happy to report that he is now recovering well and walking comfortably again!
